SVETA FILOMENA - PROSI ZA NAS! HVALA TI!

St. Philomena is little known and loved in the Church due to the fact that she was "taken down from the altar" in the wake of the Vatican II Revolution. On February 14th, 1961, her Feast was unjustly removed from the Liturgical Calendar because no historical evidence could be found for her existence. Why, then, did the Church venerate her? After her remarkable discovery, countless miracles were attributed to the intercession of St. Philomena. True, no historical account of her life exists. However, her tomb was discovered in the Year 1802, during excavations in the catacomb of St. Priscilla, one of those fascinating, dungeon-like fortresses that housed the bodies of the Saints of God brutally martyred for the Faith, quietly tucked away under the Eternal City. The freshly preserved tomb was a fascinating discovery.  Upon examination, in Latin, "Pax Tecum, Filumena" were found inscribed on the tomb, which means "Peace be with you, Filumena." God wanted his little martyr known and loved, for it was rare for the name of the martyr to be inscribed on their town. The young girl's name in English is Philomena, meaning "daughter of light." The bones of the saint were that of a girl of 13 years.
