POUČEN ČLANEK HUGHA OWEN IZ KOLBE CENTRA

Dear Friends of the Kolbe Center,

Glory to Jesus Christ!

As we enter Holy Week and meditate on the betrayal of Judas and our own betrayals, the world continues to reverberate with scandals involving the abuse of the innocent by bishops and clergy. What is almost never mentioned is that most if not all of these scandals would never have taken place if the perpetrators had been taught to respect the "sacred history of Genesis," including its historical account of the destruction of the cities of the plain in Genesis 19.

The reason is simple.  Anyone who is taught from his youth the truth that God loves purity and abhors perversion, and that He literally destroyed the cities of the plain because of their addiction to unnatural vice--that young person will have "the fear of the Lord" that is the beginning of wisdom and will want to seek God's grace to overcome any temptations against purity.  On the other hand, the young person who is taught that Genesis is a "myth" and that the destruction of the cities of the plain is a fairy tale intended to underscore the importance of hospitality--that young person will be much more susceptible to the temptations against purity that assail him on every side.

Modernists have long assured us that there is no evidence to support the harsh fairy tale of the destruction of the cities of the plain, but in recent decades archaeology has provided abundant evidence that Genesis 19, like the rest of Genesis, is, worthy of the title bestowed upon it by the Catechism of the Council of Trent: "the sacred history of Genesis." For those of you who are interested, Dr. Bryant G. Wood provides an excellent overview of the archaeological evidence for "the destruction of the sin cities" at this link.

On April 30, Dr. Thomas Seiler and I will give a Kolbe seminar to a religious congregation in Europe. Since I will fly to Europe for the seminar, I will be happy to go anywhere in Europe during the days before or after the seminar to make additional presentations, either on my own or with one of the scientists on our advisory council. If you know of a parish, school, university, or other venue where we could offer a seminar or hold a debate, please let me know as soon as possible so that we can plan accordingly.

A most blessed Holy Week and Easter to all of you!

Yours in Christ through the Immaculata,

Hugh Owen
