What about the St. Michael Prayer?

Hello,

I appreciate your site. I was curious as to why the prayer to St. Michael fell into disuse after Vatican II. Do you have any thoughts on this?

I read your comments, that it has all but disappeared in the hurch.

Being new to the Catholic faith and the Latin Mass I have been praying it daily. Thank you.

     Pax Christi,

     J.B.

TIA responds:

Hello J.B.,

Thank you for your amiable words.

St. Michael is par excellence an anti-ecumenical and anti-tolerant Saint. He cast the Devil and his cohorts into Hell before the beginning of our human history, and continues his work of defeating the devils every single day.

Now then, the conciliar Church is par excellence an anti-militant Church, which has set aside almost all the symbols and models of the past militancy of the Catholic Church.

Even the manifestations of God’s justice, such as Hell, has falled into almost complete oblivion.

For an analogous reason, silence has also fallen over St. Michael, the Angel who is the archetype of  Catholic militancy. Consequently, the prayer to St. Michael followed the same destiny.

We hope this explanation helps to answer your question.

We welcome you to the Catholic Faith and pray to St. Michael to make you a perfect miles Christi, a soldier of Christ - to fight for Him and His Church in these difficult times in which we live.

     Cordially,
